Clean Mean Taco Seasoning

Updated: Apr 5

A DIY taco seasoning that's easy, inexpensive and free of fillers, preservatives, seed oils and sugar. Make large batches and store in a glass jar to use whenever you need it.

Why Make Your Own Taco Seasoning?

Most store-bought seasoning packets are surprisingly laden with a bunch of junky additives to make it shelf stable. When you make your own seasoning you are saving yourself from cornstarch, maltodextrin, monosodium glutamate, inflammatory oils and unnecessary sugar and sodium. (This is crazy!)

Can Tacos Be Healthy?

Taco meat is so versatile and so easy and quick to make. Protein and vegetables is the ideal meal so combine it with healthy swaps and in minutes you can have a delicious, satisfyingly healthy dinner.

What Else Can I Make with Taco Meat?

Ditch the conventional and often genetically modified standard corn taco shell for these delicious alternatives:

  • Salad mix, topped with taco meat, salsa, and guacamole. Add cheese and sour cream if you can do dairy.

  • Make a veggie taco scramble with any or all of these veggies: cauliflower rice, zucchini and bell peppers (if you can do nightshade vegetables.) Saute the veggies in a separate pan in avocado oil and do a quick roast of the cauliflower rice on a sheet pan in the oven (the air fryer might work, too) so it won’t be soggy. Then add it to the meat and stir in a little salsa if you like for added flavor. I like extra condiments everywhere.

  • Pile the meat onto a healthy chip (Siete brand) for nachos. Add toppings like black olives, jalapenos and guacamole.

  • Make a lettuce wrap with organic romaine leaves.

These ideas also make a Taco Bar the perfect party food. Because of all the options, it will work for the vegetarians (sauté onions, peppers and zucchini), gluten-free, Keto, Whole 30 and Paleo guests.
